In the year 2480 a small trading caravan was making it's way across the Misty Mountains towards High Pass. Unknown to the Free Peoples, a great host of Orcs had been sent into the mountains by the Dark Lord Sauron who wished to claim both the High & Low Passes, in addition to the Redhorn pass, and thus close the Misty Mountains to all travellers. The Caravan, making it's final camp before pushing onwards to Rivendell, had prepared defences knowing that Goblin raiders sometimes grew bold enough to attack small groups passing through the mountains.
The attack came just after midnight, under cover of darkness a force of Goblins rushed the outer defences, and the travellers were at first overwhelmed by the ferocity of the attack, the Goblins being driven onwards by a smaller force of Mordor Orcs. The raiders were led by a large Uruk, who's warmasters drove the Goblins forward with many lashes from their cruel whips, and soon the travellers were driven inwards towards the centre of their camp, and found themselves fighting for their lives. The travellers rallied towards a tall Elven warrior by the name of Ari'dul, standing proud with many foes dead at her feet the Elf cried out into the night ''A si i-DhĂșath Ăș-orthor''! and soon she was joined by a sturdy Dwarf. A Man there came also, and a Hobbit too, and so the four prepared to defend the surviving traders unto their death. All night they fought, and suffered many grievous wounds, until the faint light of the sun over the mountains brought with it a company of Elven warriors out of Imladris, and the Orcs fled before the fiercesome onslaught of these Elves, and to cower from the coming dawn. For many days the Caravan lingered in Rivendell, until all were rested and cured of their wounds, before continuing on it's way into Eriador. Ere long they reached the small hamlet of Combe where the Caravan divided, but the four defenders decided to linger a while longer before going their seperate ways.
As news of the invasion of the Misty Mountains spread, so too did the tale of the four valiant defenders. Carried far and wide across Middle Earth the tale grew in it's telling, until the 'Guardians Song' was being sung by many a Minstrel, and the Bards would enthrall their audiences with the story of 'The Four Guardians'. Ari'dul, Olo the Hobbit, Rettul the Dwarf and Malfinn of Gondor, rested and lingered in Combe for many months, loathe to break the bonds that they had forged in battle they decided that, upon parting, they would meet once a year in Combe, on the anniversary of their fight.
On that first anniversary the four comapnions were surprised to find that others had come too, inspired by the tale folk had come to Combe to meet them and share in the telling. As the years passed by their fellowship grew, and Ari'dul decided that those who met in Combe should stay in touch, that in times of trouble they should call upon each other for aid, to stand side by side just as the four of them had done that night in the Misty Mountains.......and so The Guardians were born.
Since that time there have been Guardians in many of Middle Earths conflicts, both large & small. Today, the Guardians are spread all across Middle Earth, in all walks of life, they are soldiers, farriers, armorsmiths, farmers, herdsmen, traders.....and in times of trouble they know that help is never far away. Currently a small band of them are forming once again, in Combe, called from all across Middle Earth they are gathering for the coming storm, gathering to stand side by side in The War of the Ring.
The Guardians were formed in early beta and have been around ever since, having fallen into a state of inactivity a few months ago the kinship has now been taken over, and we are currently in the process of re-building. We are looking for mature roleplayers who are also dedicated to staying in Lord of the Rings Online for another twelve months at least.
As the background suggests, this is not a military kinship (even though it is quite acceptable for your char' to be a soldier) rather a group from a larger oraganisation who are forming to do their bit to aid in the coming war. With that in mind we would ask that anyone interested in joining contact us in game, forum applications will not be accepted. You could, for example, approach us on the premise that you are a Guardian from another part of Middle Earth coming to join the company that is forming in Breeland, or you could have heard a song, or tales about the Guardians etc. Contacts in game are.....
Eohdrithen (Rohan)
Nirassi (Gondor)
Reodwyn (Rohan)
Gord (Dwarf)
Gilthir (Elf)
Berek (Breeland)
Dreyh (Hobbit)
Tolquinn (Hobbit)
A letter (in game mail) for example, as an introduction or announcement of arrival (set up a meeting) could work well too. The guardians are a work in process and we look forward to hearing from anyone interested in joining up with us
